Multiple Posting Error: Typepad Mobile Goes Crazy

My apologies for multiple and repeated individual entries on the site--I'm using the Typepad Mobile client application for Windows Mobile and although I received errors on my device when posting, it appears that each of the erroneous postings actually went through and appeared on the site. I've deleted all but one of the posts and now things are back to normal. It's a good reminder that whenever you post to your weblog (or think that you didn't post), you should visit the site to check on what actually happened to make sure that weird things aren't going on without your knowledge. Typepad Mobile still has a few bugs that need to be addressed if it is to live up to its full potential as a remote blogging client for mobile entrepreneurs.

The Handango Quarterly Yardstick: A Measure of Mobile Application Sales

Handango is one of the premier providers of mobile device software. Their Yardstick is published each quarter and at the end of the year and includes a summary of the most popular mobile phone devices based on software downloads in addition to a listing of the most popular downloads for BlackBerry, Palm, Windows Mobile and Symbian operating systems. It's a great tool for marketers to use in determining what kinds of services and products will be most attractive to potential buyers based on past buyer behavior. Mobilize Your Site with Wirenode

Wirenode.com is a free mobile hosting service that can convert the RSS feed from your weblog into a .mobi site using their domain that you can edit by adding images, text, widgets, pictures, lists and other social networking widgets. I'm playing around with the site using my primary weblog as a test of its functionality. Once I've got a feature-rich version of my site up and running, I'll post an update with the link and my initial review of the service for your reference and consideration. Be a Mobile Pioneer, Not a Mobile Wannabe

Mobile Phone Blog posted this summary of recent research from Insight Express on three distinct mobile behavior profiles: Mobile Pioneers, Mobile Wannabees, and Mobile Traditionalists. Pioneers are advanced feature users who are technology leaders that get the most out of their devices in terms of productivity and entertainment; most Pioneers are under 35 years old. Wannabees copy the behaviors of the Pioneers and would like to do more with their devices; they are likely to become Pioneers as their knowledge and usage increase and tend to influence the purchase decisions of others through their zeal. Less than half of the Wannabees are less than 35 years old. Traditionalists use thier devices mostly for talking and texting and most are over 35 years old but it's interesting that texting is becoming a fairly common use of mobile phones across all age groups.

Insight Express has published another 12-page report that determined the following:

• Having a mobile phone is as common as having internet access
• Penetration is equal across generations--low to mid 80% for all generations: Y, X, and Boomers
• Generations Y and X are more likely to use feature-packed phones by Boomers aren't far behind with text messaging being among the most used features of Boomers
• Generation Y is most likely to read and write text messages while on the road

JD Power Mobile Phone Customer Satisfaction Results

MobileBurn published details about the recent JD Powers survey results regarding mobile phone customer satisfaction. Among the best rated carriers are Verizon, Alltel, T-Mobile and US Cellular. Areas covered by the survey include: dropped calls, static, failed connections, distortion, echo, and failed voicemail or text message notification. CDMA networks scored better than GSM networks and 3G phones were rated better than those on low speed networks.

Given the differences between the network technology, it's not surprising that CDMA networks were rated higher--CDMA is an American standard with some international use among it's 270 million users that allows for better optimization of calls using the network. GSM is an international standard with over a billion users worldwide that offers greater device flexibility via swappable SIM cards. 3G phones tend to be more expensive and feature rich than their low-speed counterparts and typically offer a better overall experience by default. Whichever network and whatever type of phone you prefer, mobile technology is here to stay. Technology is improving so quickly that those best prepared to provide outstanding mobile services and products will be most likely to profit in the long run.

• Nokia reports that by 2009, there will be 3 billion mobile phone users worldwide.
